Why "Saratoga Jazz Ensemble?" A short explanation

During the Twenties, Thirties and early Forties, the wealthy and famous of New York would decamp to the up-state spa town of Saratoga Springs in order to escape the sizzling summer heat and humidity of the city.

Daytime would perhaps encompass attendance at the race-track, interspersed with a round or two of golf or a rejuvenating visit to the thermal springs. After dark these denizens of "High Society" would don tuxedo or gown and dance the night away to music played by the "Jazz Greats" and "Show Biz Legends" of the day.

During the Summer of 1994, in an endeavour to replicate the types of music realised on such occasions, a number of like-minded jazz enthusiasts got together as a group and formed  "The Saratoga Jazz Ensemble". Some twenty three years on, the present line-up play with the same degree of fervour.
Combining versatility, virtuosity and the ability to deliver optimum entertainment, the Saratoga Jazz Ensemble continues to provide live music suited to the wishes of the client. Music for concerts, for civic and corporate functions, for dances, festivals, parties, promotional events and weddings.

Come and listen to the jazz and blues of the Mississippi Delta, the sounds of Chicago and New York and compositions from "The Great American Songbook". Every second Sunday of the month at our lunch-time sessions in the Lincoln Room at Rustons Sports & Social Club.
